It has been a while since I posted on here. It has been a busy first year of teaching! We are just coming up on state testing and I am going to try getting the kids on here to post some of their writing. I hope it works well for them! It has been tough finding places on our computer to have them type. When I was a kid, we just opened up word to type. We don't have Word here so I have been trying to be creative. This is my next idea. So make sure you check back so see some great writing from my AWESOME kiddos.
This is my first ever blog post here on our new site! I will be sure to fill you in on what we are doing in our classes, and may even have the kids write some things up to share with you.
This week we attended the Woodson County Water Festival. It was a great day filled with lots of learning. The kids started out by learning about the water cycle. They loved talking into a spoon, maybe I should start carrying one around... Then we went and made our own landfill out of different foods in a pop bottle. We saw how important recycling is to our environment and the water we drink! They had a model of a typical town to show us how we have to be careful with oil, fertilizer and dirt from our houses and farms! Then it was time for water olympics. The kids played games against each other to see who could not break the surface tension. Then we broke for lunch and went outside. This was much needed! The kids got to look at another model made on a trailer made out of plastic! We flooded the trailer and learned about the natural things water can do that we have to protect out land from happening... EROSION!. Fredonia NRCS was there to teach us about wetlands and how they help keep the water we drink clean. We ended the day with a few races to show us what it was like before we had water pumped into our houses. I think we all agreed, while fun in the game, wouldn't be fun in the cold of the winter or heat of the summer. |
